The Humane Organisation for the Relief of Suffering Equines (HORSE) was set up in March 2013 by Monique Archer and others who are interested in animal welfare in Barbados and was registered with Corporate Affairs on 15 March 2013. The charity was set up mainly in response to the number of former race horses that are sometimes abandoned or kept in deplorable conditions.
Project Summary
The overall problem to be resolved is the abandonment and ill treatment of horses in Barbados. This project is primarily to rescue horses and will and endeavor to stop this practice by Education and awareness. The donation from the Trust will be used to assist the Humane Organisation for the Relief of Suffering Equines in their aim to provide a safe rehabilitative environment for rescued horses. The centre will be open to all children who are interested in horses and learning to ride who would not otherwise be able to afford riding lessons or to otherwise have access to horses. They are also aiming to establish a riding programme for the disabled in the future.
