The YWCA of Barbados was founded in 1950 and currently has a membership of over 200 persons. The membership is made up of a wide cross-section of girls and women from varying social and professional backgrounds. The motto of the YWCA Barbados is “United in Love and Service”. This is accompanied by their mission to promote empowerment, growth and development of women and girls while actively responding to relevant societal needs. The YWCA launched the Breakfast Club in 2007 for school children in various communities throughout Barbados.
The Trust donated to the Breakfast programme for those children living in low income or single-parent households. It will improve the nutritional status of children in school as well as their cognitive and academic performance. The Club currently provides breakfast for over 1,000 children on the island.
