A friend of the Care Project is an independent NGO established to help improve the facilities and specialist therapy provided at the Care Project. The Care Project is currently housed in the paediatric ward at the old Holberton hospital which is a Government facility provides a home and basic care for a number of people with severe mental and/or physical disabilities. Many of the residents have essentially been abandoned by their families and range in age from 8 to 48. Currently there are 14 residents.
The Maria Holder Memorial Trust donation will assist with the construction of a new home for the children who are currently living on a ward at the Old Holberton Hospital. It is anticipated that the new home will house approximately 25 children upon completion and will provide residents with a safe, secure and comfortable home designed specifically for them.
